Reflexology is a non-invasive therapy that can be used to treat the young and old.
Reflexology is a healing art that dates back to the Ancient Egyptians (around 2300 BC); depictions of people 'treating' through
reflexology were found drawn in tombs. This healing practice has been used for hundreds of years.
In the late 1800's scientific experiments proving its efficacy were conducted in both Russia and Germany; in 1843 Sir Henry Head, an English neurologist published research proving a direct relationship between pressure applied to the skin and its effects on internal organs. Dr. Fitzgerald expanded that research and came up with "zone therapy". He found that the body could be divided into 10 zones longitudinally, and if you worked on one area in a particular zone, other areas within that zone were also affected. He discovered that he could relieve pain in one part of the patient's body by applying pressure to another part. This method of zones or energy channels is similar to the principles underlying acupuncture. In the early 1900s Eunice Ingham took this work one step further and mapped the body onto the feet and so, she is recognized as the founder of modern day reflexology.
