Reflexology - Contraindications
There are times when a reflexology treatment should not be given for the safety of the client and the practitioner. Even though Reflexology is
completely safe, it is also very powerful and caution is exercised in the following cases:
- During an unstable or high risk pregnancy (light treatment may provided to those women who are not high risk).
- If the client has an infectious illness of the foot or body (the practitioner’s health is at stake and if the practitioner gets sick, other people can get sick).
- If the patient is sick with a high temperature or fever.
- If there is a recent scar or broken skin in the area to be treated.
- If a person has shingles.
- If a person has deep vein thrombosis or thrombophlebitis.
- If a person is epileptic.
- Someone who is under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- People with a fitted pacemaker or unstable heart condition.
